WALLACE GLENWRIGHT AHS Class of 1926
Wallace Glenwright won a total of five varsity letters in football, basketball and track at AHS. He set the school javelin record in 1926. Glenwright continued his athletic career at Mount Union and won eleven letters, and is already a member of the Mount Union Hall of Fame. He was All-Ohio in basketball at Mount in 1929, and was captain of both the ’29 football squad and the ’30 basketball team. In track, Glenwright was Ohio Conference Javelin Champion in 1928 and held the school record until it was surpassed by Leroy Raber – also a member of AHS Hall of Fame. Glenwright, after graduating with a BS degree, played five years of professional basketball with the Sandusky “Big Reds”. Wallace Glenwright coached at Sandusky High from 1932 to 1942. After four years in military service, he served as Athletic Director at Sandusky, principal from 1948-57, and Superintendent of schools from 1958-68. He is presently a faculty member of the Department of Education, Bowling Green University. His numerous civic awards from Sandusky groups rank him as a fine citizen, and Hall of Fame member. |
