TOM BARNETT AHS Class of 1955
Tom Barnett was an outstanding football player and track star. He received three varsity letters in football from 1952-54. As co-captain with Len Dawson – also in the AHS Hall of Fame – in 1954 he set the school record of 6 touchdowns in one game. He was 1st team All-Ohio halfback, and played in the north-South All Star game, and remembers his three year total of eleven TD’s against East Liverpool. Three more varsity letters in football came from Purdue University in ’56, ’57, ’58. He played professional football with the Pittsburgh Steelers for two years and was one of the last Pro’s to play both ways. While in the service, he was traded to the Minnesota Vikings and played with them one year after being discharged. Barnett was also an outstanding track star and was co-holder of the 100 yard dash record until 1968. Tom resides in Washington DC with his wife and two daughters, Karen, 3 and Monica, 2. He serves as an assistant manager of Somerest Importers, Ltd. |
