Robert J. Boyce – Graduated 1942; Inducted 1999
In June of 1942 Robert Boyce graduated from Alliance High School. During World War II he served as a pilot in the U.S. 12th Army Air Force. In December, 1944 Mr. Boyce was promoted to 1st Lieutenant. While a member of the U.S. Army Air Force, he earned 5 Silver Battle Stars, the Air Medal during the invasion of France, the American Defense Medal, a Presidential Unit Citation and the Victory Medal. After the war he served in the Air Force active reserves until 1971 when he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Following the war, Mr. Boyce attended Ohio State University, graduating in 1952 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. From 1952 to 1957 he worked as an architect in Columbus, Ohio. In 1967 he joined the firm of Daniel, Mann, Johnson, and Mendenhall in Los Angeles, California. He retired in 1994 as Senior Architect and Project Manager.
During his career as an architect, Mr. Boyce has designed a variety of structures including the White Castle Hamburgers’ corporate offices in Columbus, Ohio; the library at Ohio Wesleyan University; the Riverside General Hospital in Columbus, Ohio; Green Cross Memorial Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls,, Ohio; three different junior colleges in California; Ambassador City College auditorium; and a press building in Pasadena, California. Mr. Boyce was project manager for the design and building of the World of Motion Building at Epcot Center, Disney World, Orlando, Florida.
While in California, Mr. Boyce was involved in designing and building projects for the U.S. government. These projects were at Edwards Air Force Base and Vandenberg Air Force Base. For nine years he was part of the space shuttle program at the Kennedy Space Center.

Overseas, Mr. Boyce was project director for a headquarters building, control tower, and hangers in Algiers. He was project architect for the air base used by the U.S. in Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia.
For his work and many contributions to the field of architecture, Mr. Boyce has received numerous awards, including the Mendenhall Award for Excellence in Engineering for designing a rocket motor test facility on the U.S. Air Force Base, Tullahoma, Tennessee.
