MELVIN "BILL" WINDLAND          AHS Class of 1931
       Melvin “Bill” Windland was a three year letterman in football, basketball, and track at AHS. He was given the special honor of being elected captain in all three sports.
        Bill was selected United Press All-Ohio basketball at Mount Union, and received three letters in football,  and two each in basketball and track, during the 1933-35 years.
      Windland next coached freshman basketball at AHS and served as player-coach for the Goodyear basketball team at Jackson, Michigan, and the Wilcox Industrial team in Alliance.
       He received four battle stars in the Marine Corps while serving four years in the South Pacific battle area.
        Windland now resides in Alliance where he has been an employee of Babcock and Wilcox for the last 24 years.
        Bill also ranks the 3-2 basketball win over Massillon as his most gratifying experience He also remembers beating Canton McKinley 7-3 in the last two minutes of play.
