LEO B. GRIMES AHS Class of 1928
Leo B. Grimes participated in football, basketball and tennis at Alliance High School. He added track plus additional participation in these three while attending Mount Union College. He was one of the first two men at Mount to win twelve varsity letters in a collegiate career dating from 1929-32. Grimes was a three-year All-Ohio fullback, and a two year All-Ohio cage guard and played on two Ohio Conference cage championship teams. He captained Mount’s tennis team for three years, and broke the school’s shot put record in track. Leo Grimes taught mathematics and coached at Canal Fulton, Wellington, Loudonville, and Mackenzie High Schools. He retired from coaching in 1953 after 22 years, in order to pursue other educational work. From 1953-1964 he served as administrator at Detroit’s Redford High School and is presently Professor of Education and Director of Secondary Student Teaching at Manchester College, North Manchester, Indiana. Grimes remembers passing for the winning touchdown against Ohio University in the last minute of his last Mount Union game. |
