Joyce Harmon Crain – Graduated 1959; Inducted 2023
Joyce Harmon Crain graduated from AHS in 1959. Under the advice of the counselor, Norman McLeod, Joyce attended BGSU to study fine arts in painting. She then received her masters from George Washington University in conjunction with the Corcoran Museum in DC. Her mediums include sculpture, fiber art and light painting. Her unique methods indicate that she has excelled in three-dimensional art. Joyce has displayed works in the Center for the Arts Fellowship in Chandler, AZ and at the University of Arizona School of Dance. Her commissions include IBM, Apple Computer, Texas Instruments, and UPS Worldwide Logistics. The Cleveland Museum of Art has shown her works, as well as JFK Airport and the Knoxville Convention Center. Joyce explained, “Her abstract interpretations of aerial and satellite photographs allow us to see our world in a different way.” Her unique methods link art with science and technology.
