JOHN DANN AHS Class of 1930
John “Hank” Dann was a standout in football and basketball during his high school years. John played both ways in football, both as a quarterback and hard-nosed linebacker. In below zero weather, in a game with Salem, hard-nosed really described his play as he rushed into the opponent’s backfield and blocked a punt with his nose. Playing with the same competitive spirit shown in football, Dann became an important part of the Aviator cage squad. After graduation, Dann continued his education at Ohio University. Football proved to be still very much a part of his life and he played three years of varsity ball. Dann served in the Naval Reserve in 1941-1943, and here earned the rank of Ensign. Mr. Dann, now a resident of Buffalo, New York, is employed by the Chevrolet Motor Co. He believes that sports have taught him to be competitive in life. Mr. Dann claims that beating Canton McKinley 14-12 in football in 1929 is his most thrilling experience, and Massillon 3-2 in basketball in 1928-29 his most gratifying. |
