John Hampu coached for the State Street Blue Devils, the Stanton Buckeyes, and the Alliance Aviators from 1972 to 1985. As the coach of the Stanton Buckeyes Track and Field teams he guided 10 undefeated seasons with over 150 wins. He was an assistant coach on the 1983 Alliance Aviators football team that went 10-0 and was the first qualifier in Alliance High School Football history. Coach Hampu has coached 23 members of the AHS Hall of Fame. He was awarded the Karl Werthwein Award for his contributions to the OHSAA State Swimming and Diving tournament.
