Frank K. Tanner played three years of football and two each of basketball, baseball and track for Alliance High School.  Following high school he had an equally active semi-pro career as a player, manager and coach from 1912 to 1930.  While participating in the Alliance Machine Company’s shop semi-pro leagues, Tanner had 20 championship teams.
He was a member of the committee that organized the city’s first softball league, directed the First Christian Church teams in YMCA leagues and coached the Haines Motor Car Company to the 1923-24 Northeastern Ohio Amateur Basketball title.
Tanner was associated with the Alliance Machine Company from 1912 to 1930 before he moved to Willoughby and a crane redesigning project with Cleveland Crane & Engineering Company.  He was a special design engineer for the US Government during World War II and later worked for the United States Steel Corporation.
Returning to Alliance Machine in 1950, Tanner established the department of quality control and customer service in 1956 and was made general superintendent of Alliance Machine and the Alliance Structural Company in 1959.  He retired in December 1963.
