E. J. LILLY AHS Class of 1999
E. J. Lilly graduated in the AHS Class of 1999. He was one of the most exciting football players to ever come out of Alliance High School. He was a three-year starter for the Aviators under head football coach Joel Cockley. Lilly’s incredible cutback ability is something Aviator and Stark County fans still talk about. In a game at North Canton Hoover, Lilly raced around end and seeing Viking defenders everywhere, he skillfully reversed his field and darted and dashed past practically the entire Hoover team to score the winning touchdown in the opposite corner of the end zone. It was one of the single-greatest plays in the history of Alliance football. A standout running back for the Aviators, Lilly rushed for over 5,000 yards in his career. He was the first player in Stark county history to reach that status. He also broke the Alliance High School record for rushing yards in a single game when he rushed for 355 yards in a win against St. Thomas Aquinas. E. J. earned All-Ohio honors in the 1996, 1997 and 1998 seasons. He later went to the University of Cincinnati, earning his football letter in 2001. He also played in six games for Mount Union in 2003. E. J. Lilly was inducted into the prestigious Stark County High School Football Hall of Fame in 2011. |
