EDDIE NORRIS AHS Class of 1920
Eddie Norris has been a man in a hurry ever since he won nine Alliance High School letters in football, basketball and track. He started two varsity grid seasons with opening-play touchdown runs for Marion AL Institute in 1921 and the US Naval Academy in 1922. As an Annapolis freshman he played varsity football, basketball and track, winning the All-Around Medal for track. His sophomore year was spent in varsity football, basketball and lacrosse. He turned down a contract with the New York Football Giants in 1923. Leaving the Academy to study chemical engineering at M.I.T., he followed graduation in 1927 with 10 years on the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company Staff. Subsequent positions included: factory manager for the Sun Rubber Company; vice president of the Aerovox Corporation; general manager of the Standard Products Company; and director of manufacturing for three Indiana plants of the General Tire and Rubber Company. Retiring in 1967 as assistant to the president of the Sheller Manufacturing Company, Norris found inactivity “distasteful.” He is now general manager of the American Safety Equipment Corporation’s Buco Division, Southfield, Michigan. |
