Donald E. Asher – Graduated 1974; Inducted 2010
Donald Eugene Asher was born in Anderson, Indiana, but grew up in Alliance, Ohio. He attended Liberty Elementary School, State Street Junior High School, the old Alliance High School and the current Alliance High School. The Alliance school system has always been part of his life given that his parents, Ray and Nancy, were both teachers in Alliance.
During high school, Mr. Asher participated in sports playing football for four years, earning a varsity letter his senior year. He also helped keep basketball statistics during his freshman, sophomore and junior years. He participated in other school activities such as band during junior high and in high school French Club, Science Seminar, Chorale, Madrigals and National Honor Society.
Upon the recommendation of Mr. David Cowan, Math Department Chair, mentor and friend, Mr. Asher applied to and was accepted by the University of Akron. While at the University, Mr. Asher was a member of the Math Club (president his senior year) and was elected to the Phi Eta Sigma National Freshman Honorary Scholarship Fraternity, the Phi Sigma Alpha Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences Honorary Scholarship Fraternity, and the University of Akron Honor A-Key Society recognizing campus involvement. He was also a member of the Graduate Student Senate.

Mr. Asher earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1978, graduating with honors, and his Master of Science degree in Applied Mathematics in 1980, also graduating with honors.
After graduation Mr. Asher was hired by the Radar Systems Group of Hughes Aircraft Company in El Segundo, California, now Space and Airborne Systems of Raytheon Company. During his 30 year career in the defense industry, Mr. Asher has worked on the F/A-18, F-15 and B-2 radars along with other state of the art technologies in support of our nation’s armed forces. He also teaches a class in the Advanced Technology Education Program at Raytheon; this is a program where subject matter experts share their knowledge of specific topics within the company.
Mr. Asher has been awarded an Excellence in Systems Integration and Design award from the F/A-18 program, the Space and Airborne Systems Excellence in Engineering Award, and the Raytheon Excellence in Engineering and Technology Award. Mr. Asher is currently a Sr. Engineering Fellow, which places him in the top tier of the technical staff within Raytheon.
Mr. Asher lives in Torrance, California with his wife Cynthia and son Zachary.
