AARON BIVINS AHS Class of 1974
Aaron Bivins was born in Alliance in 1956. He attended Riverside Elementary, Stanton Junior High and Alliance High School, graduating in 1974. While at Alliance, Bivins participated in football, wrestling and baseball, lettering in all three sports. In his senior year, he was named tri-captain of the Aviators football team. He was also named to The Review’s All-Area Football team and earned countless other postseason honors. Bivins received a football scholarship to The University of Toledo where he was a star for the Rockets as a linebacker and middle guard. He was named the Mid-American Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year in 1976. He also received the Jim Nicholson Award that same season as the Rockets’ team MVP. He led Toledo in tackles with 186 in 1976 and 180 in 1977. He is Toledo’s all-time leader in career tackles with 508. Bivins went on to win the Nicholson Award as the team MVP for a second straight time in 1977. He served as a team captain for Toledo in the 1977 season. He was named to the All Mid-American Conference team in both the 1976 and 1977 seasons. He also excelled in academics and was named to the Academic All Mid-American Conference team in 1976. Bivins was inducted into The University of Toledo’s Varsity “T” Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. Aaron Bivins graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree at Toledo as well as earning a teacher’s certificate. He has studied Watercolor Landscape painting with Walter Chapman and Acrylic Oil Landscape painting with Richard Dziak. Working in Watercolor and Acrylic Oil primarily, he paints portraits of people, animals, landscapes, houses, barns, florals and many other subjects. He is a former Junior High Art teacher in the Toledo Public School System. Bivins has won countless art awards and has paintings displayed at galleries throughout Ohio and Michigan. He is past president of the Northwestern Ohio Watercolor Society and a member of the Toledo Artists Club. Aaron Bivins lives in Toledo. He was nominated for the Alliance High School Hall of Fame by Elayne Dunlap. |
